North 229AB

Thursday May 23, 2019 - 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Join us for a panel that examines historically oriented motion pictures as both primary and secondary sources of information about the past. Starting from the premise that the content in films, as with written sources, we will discuss how they can (and should) be critically analyzed for their perspectives, interpretive choices, biases, and reliability. The panel analyzes the relative successes or failures that major films have had in portraying the past, and discuss how present events, cultures, and attitudes shape our view of the past.
